Dove Creek Omnium Race Report and Results!

The Comox Valley Cycle Clubs annual Dove Creek Omnium had 53 riders enjoy sunny weather, great racing, and a successful fundraiser for Lac Megantic
Festivities started out Saturday morning with the Royston criterium; in Category C local rider Isaac Van der Vliet took the win over Victoria rider Brenna Pauly and other riders. In the Saturday afternoon 8 km Burns Road time trial Isaac and Brenna repeated the feat on the tough course to finish in 14:01 and 14:58. The Sunday Morning 52km Dove Creek road race the young duo dropped the two older riders with Isaac attacking on the hill only to have Brenna claw the distance back and pipping him at the line.
In Category B the Saturday criterium contested by 16 riders had many attacks and came down to out of town riders John Guthrie and Nick Kupiak, local rider Aaron Milan take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The time trial consisted of two laps of Burns Road (16.2 km) was won by local rider Kent Duncan in a time of 26:14. The final Sunday road race on Dove Creek went for 69 km and had attacks from the start. Local rider Damian Parlee initiated the final breakaway and was quickly joined by local rider Doug Merrick and out of town Nick Kupiak, in the final run up to the line Nick took the win over Damian after Doug came off the pace on the final climb.
In Category A criterium the 24 starters attacked from the get-go with solo attacks and team tactics, in the final to the line club alumni Jordan Duncan took the win over team-mate Alex Amiri (Russ Hay's/Accent Inn cycling Team). In the afternoon time trial Jordan again took the win in a blistering time of 24:08 with over half a minute over 2nd place Kerry White. In the 86 km Sunday morning road race had breakaway attacks and counterattacks. The final breakaway initiated by Russ Hay's/Accent Inn rider Craig Lunn took a couple other riders for the last couple of laps. On the final lap Craig dropped the rest of the riders as the charging pack swallowed all but himself and Matt Billinghurst, the bunch sprint won by Alex Amiri and Jordan Duncan.
The Saturday Evening BBQ fundraiser raised $600 for the town of Lac Megantic in Quebec and was enjoyed by both riders and volunteers. Food and draw prizes were donated by Quality Foods, Cariboo Brewing, Trail Bicycles, and Audrey Erlandson's Bi-Cycled Jewelry
